Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation on Wednesday rejected a proposed rate increase by Nationwide Insurance Company of Florida that would have raised homeowners’ premiums by an average of 71.5 percent statewide.
Florida’s Office of Insurance Regulation said there was not “sufficient support in the filing to justify the request” by Nationwide, which has more than 253,000 policies in Florida. Nationwide, Florida’s fourth-largest home insurer, filed the request July 6, and the increase would have taken effect Nov. 10 for new and renewal business.
