I have heard Gov Christ is allowing Citizens Insurance to go up 40% over a period of time. Is this true?

People cannot afford it anymore and Florida is in the worst economic depression I have ever seen in my life time

The change in allowing people to opt out of sinkhole insurance was worthless.

I give Florida an F for the home insurance a

If the State thinks we have problems now, wait until the home insurance goes up again

Simply put, Gov Christ will see the worst economic depression of Florida in anyones lifetime if he does not act and drop home insurance rates. there has to be a way to do it

Our rates need to drop not go up

Thank you

Our Gov Crist in my opinion is doing nothing to help the people in Florida to reduce home insurance, now he want to ruin un-employment and change the rule so the state does not have to pay, many people are going broke because the Gov Bush and now Gov Crist does nothing to help Florida people, because of the high home insurance and when he changes the un-employment rules, Florida will be the number one state in the nation for forclosures, unemployment, if he does not do something soon, Florida will be the talk of the nation, I would like to hear from more people in Florida, do we need a new Gov that can do something for the people of Florida?
I honestly thought Gov Crist would do something I voted for him, looks like a made a major mistake

I agree completely.

The new governor is in the hip pocket of the insurance industry since he accepted somewhere around $2.8 million in campaign contributions. That was announced by one of his opponents during the pre-election debates held on Florida TV and he still got elected???

Someone needs to light a fire under Charley’s backside to get him to do something for the citizens of Florida or he should be removed from office immediately.

He should be having weekly video updates via TV telling us what he is doing and where things are heading. Feedback is needed here or we have no idea if he is doing anything other than delegating the responsibility to others. This problem is major and it needs to be addressed this year with a solid program to recovery. There is no reason to wait, we all know there are two primary issues we are faced with. The most important one is reducing the cost of insurance and second is having enough insurance companies in Florida that Citizens Insurance is put out of business.

The whole idea of a state owned insurance company is wrong especially when it charges thousands more than a nationally known insurance company.

Our past officials that dealt with insurance issues had to see the handwriting on the wall when it came to an highly probable insurance crisis and they did absolutely nothing about it. In my estimation they should all be find and sentenced to jail for fraudulently handling of our state insurance policies.

Florida people must get involved in this or our politicians will "BS" their way out it with every excuse they can come up with. Studies are oaky IF they come up with a solution and that has not happened for over six months now. Pretty soon it will be a year and still nothing has been done. People need to unite or out public representatives will procrastinate and defer for god knows how long...

On 4/11/2007, USAA has notified us that they will no longer be able to offer home owner's insurance to new home purchases in Fla due to Fla Inurance Office refusal to increase rates proportionate to the increased risk. USAA paid out $200 million more that premioums covered in the last hurricane season. I had owned a condo in Boca Raton in the 1990's and had to sell it due to a health problem. We are now in the process of moving permanantly to the Sarasota area.I have been with USAA since my military duties in the 1960's and they have been an excellent company. The potential difficulty in obtaining affordable insurance in the Sarasota area(Palmer Ranch) is forcing us to reconsider the transition. The predicted hurricane season for 2007 is worrisome, so the USAA notification may prove to be providential.

Let us first think outside the box to solve our insurance crisis. Insurance in Florida is not insurance any more it is just and excuse to make money from every home and keep as much as you can. Homeowners are not covered if it floods, for termites, or sink holes if you don't carry special coverage. At the time of a Hurricane you dedutables goes up and you may not hear from your insurance agent or company for many months. WE NEEED to scrape the whole system and start a system that is concerned about saving peoples property and not making a profit. pROFIT IN THE INSURANCE INDUSTRY IS A DIRTY WORD. My solution is to form a simple coop of assurance that will cover your house and property in case of damage. That will have the local contacts to get your home repaired fast and within county codes. Use a network for tree removal, pest control to protect against termites and some type of mortgage protection in case of sink holes. Residents should pay ,but it should in line with what they can afford. If you have a 50,000 home you pay for 50,000 worth of assurance if you have a 1,000,000 home you pay for a million dollar assurance policy. I know that there are alot of things to work out, but we cannot continue to throw money into insurance and reinsurance and get no insurance.Throw the insurance companies out they do not work for us the people. Let us start it this year please contact me if you want to start this now..........

Thank you for providing extra coverage and reminding readers to contact their representatives. My insurance just went up from $1100/year to $6500 per year. This is out of hand and must be controlled before we all lose our homes to the insurance companies.
